Amini still uses a very simple recording setup\u2014essentially just a guitar\u2014alongside a very limited amount of software. What does keeps changing are his influences, which affect his work deeply. \u201cTo be able to create, you need to have a lot of inputs. For me, that plays a big role. I try to immerse myself in things I find interesting,\u201d shares Amini. The inspirations range from literature\u2014whether it be poetry, fiction, or\u00a0 philosophy\u2014to cinema or other music, both contemporary and classical.&#8221;<span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><br \/><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><b><a style=\"color: #33cccc;\" href=\"https:\/\/pitchfork.com\/features\/lists-and-guides\/great-records-you-may-have-missed-spring-2019\/\">Pitchfork Review<\/a><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;Amini\u2019s work often flits between chamber instrumentation, sumptuous dark ambient, and head-splitting noise, and he finds the perfect foil in 9T Antiope, who pair electronic glitches and drones with almost shockingly beautiful singing. Together, they conjure a terrifying expanse of blackened buzz over which 9T Antiope vocalist Sara Bigdeli Shamloo slides between classical technique, bluesy affect, and, on the dreamlike \u201cBlack as in Burst,\u201d a bone-chilling whisper.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><b><a style=\"color: #33cccc;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thewire.co.uk\/issues\/427\">The Wire Issue 427 Serus Review<\/a><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;While Amini\u2019s Serus is a significantly\u00a0darker, denser and more complex\u00a0exploration of the texture and temporal\u00a0nature of sound production, it still requires\u00a0a backstory to be fully understood in\u00a0relation to the preceding releases. 2017&#8217;s\u00a0Tar concentrated on the collective and\u00a0the individual unconscious, and the\u00a0tension between the twa, in the way it (re)produced emotions, sounds and images.\u00a0Foras the following year intensified this\u00a0exploration, particularly in relation to the\u00a0external influence governing our internal\u00a0responses. Serus meanwhile examines its\u00a0extreme effects on the composer, as the\u00a0monstrous drone of opener \u201cA Recollection\u00a0Of The Disappeared\u201d engulfs its listener\u00a0in the raw affect of someone who&#8217;d\u00a0experienced a nervous breakdown. The soundscape eventually deadens around its halfway point, clearing clutter as violin played by Nima Aghiani groans like it\u2019s part of a Haxan Cloak track, then sprawls out, then finds footing, then sprawls out again in cinematic fashion.
